1. As a teacher it is KEY to know that no one student is the same and that you will have students in your classroom that will have IEP or 504 plans and in order for that student to succeed, as a teacher you have to follow those plans. Studying them and making sure everything on the plan makes sense will be my first strategy.
2. For students that disrupt the classroom constantly or misbehave frequently, I will implement a Behavior Contract with them. This would occur on a one to one basis with no one else around. We would discuss the issue, reasons why that behavior is happening, an approximate number of times it happens per week and set up a weekly goal to lessen the number of occurrences. If the student meets the goal, a reward would be worked out between the student and I. For my students with IEP’s or 504’s, I would consult their case worker first to see if something like this could help them out. (Villa, Thousand & Nevin, 2010)

3. There are times that a classroom can get pretty rowdy and for students with maybe anxiety or students who are just having a day, staying in the classroom may not be the best idea. In cases like this, I will allow the student to leave the classroom to have a break or even go to the counselor’s office and talk about what was happening.
